Julian's Pathfinder Foundation has launched an exciting initiative called Julian's InventaLand, which focuses on introducing children aged 5 to 10 to the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The programme specifically targets gifted learners who display exceptional aptitude and curiosity beyond their age group. Led by Prof. Alexiei Dingli, Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Malta, the programme provides a two-hour session where children create their own AI sidekick, explore various facets of AI, and engage in activities involving machine learning, natural language processing, virtual reality, and augmented reality.
The programme aims to inspire new learners to embrace technology and innovation. Prof. Dingli's interactive teaching style and expertise create an enjoyable learning experience for the children, who actively participate in their own learning journey. Erika Micallef, an experienced educator, and programme director for Julian's InventaLand, emphasises the significance of such initiatives in catering to the unique needs of gifted learners and unlocking their potential. By offering challenging tasks and complex concepts, the AI Heroes programme encourages intellectual curiosity, innovation, and practical application of learning.
The success of the programme is attributed to collective efforts, with the University of Malta providing support and resources. Pierre Cassar, Director of the University's Marketing, Communications & Alumni Office and Prof. Ing. Carl James Debono, Dean at the Faculty of ICT, play key roles in organising the event and highlighting the University's commitment to nurturing gifted learners. Since its establishment in 2021, Julian's Pathfinder Foundation has been dedicated to reshaping childhood education and promoting intellectual stimulation. The AI Heroes programme exemplifies their mission by combining hands-on learning, critical thinking, and technological skills development.
The programme has received praise for its innovative approach, offering an intellectually stimulating environment where children not only learn about AI but actively apply their knowledge through engaging tasks. Initiatives like the AI Heroes programme play a pivotal role in guiding children towards becoming future innovators and leaders.
