The staff week on Challenges & Opportunities: International Sports Context for SEA-EU Partner Universities was held from 10 to 12 October 2023 at the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Split. The event was attended by , Director of the , and , Manager within the same institute.
Academics and officials from the SEA-EU Partner Universities had the opportunity to share experiences, knowledge, and best practices and to discuss future collaborations in research, teaching, and sporting events.
The staff week started with presentations from representatives in each of the nine Universities, on the history and background of their institution, together with an overview of the courses available in the area of Physical Education and Sport, the provision of sports activities for students and staff, and the support given to student-athletes in a Dual Career University programme.
Presentations on various topics followed, including a Keynote on the Introduction of the FISU (International University Sports Federation) Healthy Campus Certification, which is an initiative aiming to enhance students and the campus community鈥檚 well-being in all aspects. Representatives from the University of Algarve explained each stage they went through to implement this certification and ultimately to obtain the Platinum award. The University of Malta, together with all other SEA-EU Partner Universities, has recently started the process to obtain this certification, based on 100 criteria across seven domains.
Other presentations targeted raising awareness of the importance of physical activity among the elderly population, Professional Career Development of young people in Physical Education and Sport, the results of an inter-university scientific study on the COVID-19 pandemic, and the impact of the infection on elite athletes. The organisation of the EUSA (European University Sports Association) Futsal tournament held last summer was also presented as a case study and as an example of good practice in sports management.
The Staff Week concluded with a practical workshop entitled 'Reanimation in Sport: Lifesaving minutes', teaching lifesaving skills, including the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). In addition to the main programme, social and cultural activities included a sightseeing tour of Split and a Nordic Walk up Marjan Hill.
