The Department of Nursing at the Faculty of Health Sciences, marked Nurses’ Day 2024 by the launch of a book authored by one of its academic Staff, Dr Catherine Sharples. The book, is a document based narrative of how the vision of one person, Prof. John Rizzo Naudi was realised through his leadership and the joint efforts of many others. This journey was not without its difficulties and the book highlights the decisions made to overcome challenges towards continued growth, advancement and success.
Ms Grace Jaccarini, a former coordinator of the Nursing and Midwifery Division, Dr Trevor Abela Fiorentino, present Head of Department of Nursing, Mr Jesmond Sharples a former Director of Nursing and the author’s husband, and the author addressed the launch event. The speakers reminded the audience regarding the journey that nurse education trespassed and highlighted the encouraging future than the past has enabled.
This occasion was attended by Academics of the University of Malta including Pro-Rector Prof. Simon Fabri and Dr Stephen Lungaro Mifsud, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Other esteemed guests included some of the people who contributed to the events narrated in the book, some of the author’s family members, colleagues and friends.
