A trawler equipped for scientific research is currently conducting a scientific survey in Maltese waters in order to raise awareness on fish and marine species found on the seabed.
is carrying out the survey, and it will examine aquatic life stocks near the seabed with the aim of making fishing more sustainable, among other goals.
The CFEO of Aquatic Resources Malta, Mr Frank Fabri, said the vessel will exit up to 90 miles outwards and the equipment will go down to 800 metres deep. He also said the entity will be inviting 10 scientists from the University of Malta, MCAST and the sector to board the vessel and experience this episode.
Fisheries Department official, Mr Jurgen Mifsud, said that the waste collected throughout the study, such as microplastics, will also be documented.
