On Saturday, 2 November 2024, an activity was organised at the Valletta Campus of the University of Malta.
In this activity, the new site of the Malta Centre (Bremen-Malta), , was launched, and a glossing workshop was held for Maltese. In Linguistics, glossing refers to a series of short explanations, like morphosyntactic markers, inserted in academic texts and other works of a linguistic nature. These markers are placed between the example and the translation of the phrases/sentences in the studied language. Glossing, then, allows researchers to identify the various components, known as morphemes, that make up part of the example in question.
, who thanked everyone who contributed to the establishment of the Centre and the organization of its activities, started the meeting. and spoke after him, who launched the Centre's new site and showed the audience the sections in it, including the aims and history of the Centre, and other useful tools, including a bibliography of ' Linguistic works in Maltese.' They expressed the wish that anyone who has any suggestion to improve the site, contact the Centre from the "Talk to us" button that is on the site itself.
The participants of the workshop were divided into groups and asked to do the glossing of a few words and phrases in Maltese, and to discuss the obstacles they encountered and some solutions.
