On Sunday 6 April 2025, the premises of St Monica School in Gzira transformed into an exciting and enlightening space for young students to engage in and be inspired by science, technology, engineering and mathematics through a number of hands-on activities, workshops and keynote speeches.
The event, which took place from 10:00 onwards, welcomed both members of the St Monica school community and their families, as well as citizens.
The participation of student organisations and different departments from across the University was noticeable, with , and the Department of Midwifery being just a few.
had a threefold aim: firstly, it empowered young children through information and hands-on experiments while teaching them how to solve challenges using their critical thinking skills, it provided families with the support they need to easily access the world of science and technology and it helped all attendees explore careers in STEM.
The University of Malta stand had a vibrant atmosphere buzzing with creativity and innovation during the interactive activities.
The Faculty of Engineering showcased the marvels of technology with a captivating 3D printer, while Brimba, the robot, engaged visitors in the fascinating world of robots. The Department of Biology from the Faculty of Science engaged visitors with classification and looking at leaves through a microscope. The team ignited minds with thought-provoking number games that entertained and educated in equal measure.
Meanwhile, the Department of Midwifery from the Faculty of Health Sciences created a welcoming space where students and their families could explore and discuss the compassionate world of healthcare through interactive props.
This dynamic blend of science, technology, and community truly embodied the spirit of discovery and learning, inspiring all who participated to envision their future at the university.
