From Monday 24 March to Thursday 27 March, the hosted conservation colleagues from the Art Academy of Latvia on an exchange to share experiences on academic training and research on the conservation of art and architecture.
Colleagues Linda Krage, Indra Tuna, Indra Saulesleja, Ronalds Lusis and Linda Strale were introduced to the academic programmes, and research, of the Department of Conservation and Built Heritage, with presentations by academics, researchers and doctoral students at the Department.
Art Academy of Latvia colleagues also gave presentations on their projects, and academic programmes, to members of the Department of Conservation and Built Heritage.
The visitors were also hosted by the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, where they met the Superintendent Mr Kurt Farrugia and Mr Kenneth Cauchi, Head of Restoration and Monitoring Unit at the Superintendence, as well as several conservators and scientists working on, and studying, archaeological remains.
At the Restoration and Preservation Department, Perit Mark Azzopardi, Perit Dr Tabitha Dreyfuss and Perit Daphne Fenech spoke about their various restoration projects, showed them around their laboratory and provided a guided tour to the current restoration works at the Jesuits’ Church in Valletta.
At the end of the visit, both sides agreed to continue to build on this successful visit and to endeavour to provide future reciprocal exchanges for staff and students.
