Mighty Box, a company at TAKEOFF Business Incubator, University of Malta, is the team behind Posthuman, the post-apocalyptic survival board game that was successfully crowdfunded last year. They are now turning that board game into a video game called Posthuman: Sanctuary, which is a part strategy game with combat, team management and exploration elements, and part interactive fiction.
The game is an 'adaptation' of the board game rather than a straight conversion - which means that the feel of many board game elements (the tile laying mechanic and the combat, for e.g.) are retained, whilst adding more focus on the interactivity and the narrative component. Other elements have also been added, such as a psychology system that keeps track of morale levels for the players and their followers, as well as a mutation system that influences their perception of events, depending on the extent of mutation. The game will at first be released for the Windows, Mac OS and Linux platforms, with more platforms being made available later on.
The game story is constructed through an emergent narrative that adapts itself to your decisions, combined with fixed points (told in graphic novel-style segments) that slowly reveal the truth about the origins of the world of Posthuman.
More details can be found on the Kickstarter where the game can also be backed.
Posthuman: Sanctuary has also been launched on Steam Greenlight where holders of a free Steam account can vote for the game in order for it to be distributed on that .
