The Faculty for Social Wellbeing organised the third Dean’s Award ceremony recently. The Dean’s Award honours the best students of the Faculty. There were twelve candidates eligible for the awards, seven of whom were awarded the Outstanding Master’s Students Award, two whose name was placed on the Dean’s List for excellence in their undergraduate studies and one who was given the Social Commitment Award. Two other students were given certificates of commendation for their social commitment. The achievement of these awardees is appreciated in the light of the fact that there are currently around seven hundred undergraduate students and just over two hundred Master level students registered with the Faculty for Social Wellbeing.
The Faculty for Social Wellbeing was established by the Council of the University in July 2012. The setting up of this Faculty has brought together a number of entities of the University which address different aspects of ‘social wellbeing’. The departments that form part of the Faculty are the departments of Counselling, Criminology, Disability Studies, Family Studies, Gender Studies, Gerontology, Psychology, Social Policy and Social Work, Youth and Community Studies.
