The Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Malta recently held a National Symposium of Health Sciences to showcase the research that is being conducted at the Faculty by members of the academic staff, and by postgraduate students.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Health, the Hon. Chris Fearne gave an opening address together with the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor Angela Xuereb Anastasi.
Professor Ian Curran, from the United Kingdom, General Medical Council, presented a keynote lecture titled ‘The Nature and Nurture of Professional Excellence’ indicating how health care scientists and other allied health care professionals can directly influence clinical and medical practice in a modern setting.
The Dean’s Awards were also presented during this event. The successful students were: Loridana Buttigieg and Roberta Baldacchino from the Department of Communication Therapy; Daniel Curmi and Kirsty Rizzo from the Department of Applied Biomedical Science; Anna Mukhortova Aquilina and Maria Spagnol from the Department of Nursing; Jake Fenech from the Department of Physiotherapy and Maria Formosa and Katya Tanti from the Department of Radiography. The ceremony was presided by Professor Angela A. Xuereb and the Hon. Chris Fearne who congratulated the students and presented a certificate together with a €100 award to all student nominees.
Closing remarks were given by Professor Helen Grech, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
