A talk on ''The Mystery of Dark Matter'' was held at the Valletta campus on Thursday 2 June by Professor Isabel Lopes from Department of Physics, University of Coimbra, Portugal. This was organised by the Institute for Space Sciences and Astronomy in collaboration with the Department of Physics, at the University of Malta, as part of its centenary celebrations.
The event was intended to engage with the public regarding exactly what do we think dark matter is and why is it important for our understanding of the universe. Beyond this scope it also served to inform and inspire the public and in particular the younger generation of the opportunities for research within the space sciences and astronomy regime. On this point the University offers more than just an undergraduate degree in space related subjects, it offers master and doctoral level degrees as well as general public liberal arts and sciences courses.
In order to further the reach of the talk, we are also including the presentation for those interested.
