The Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy, is currently accepting applications for the Master of Science in Integrated Product Development (IPD), which is being offered again as from October 2016.
The modern approach in today鈥檚 industry is that of Integrated Product Development where all of the aspects of product function and design, of product materials and manufacturing, of product use and environmental impact, of product marketing and costing, and of entrepreneurship and business management are linked into a single discipline that is targeted towards optimizing overall performance and degree of success.
For this purpose, the Master's programme in IPD is built on the two fundamental pillars: Product and Process Engineering, Business and Management. This programme blends together these topics of IPD, and even allows the candidate an element of specialisation or focus in any one of these two pillars within the programme itself.
The IPD course is intended mainly for two types of participants. The first type is the engineering or science graduate who is employed in industry. The second type of students is the engineering or science graduate who would like to improve his/her expertise and qualifications in order to start a technology company, or in order to find better employment. This makes the IPD course relevant to a range industrial organisations, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), consultancies, large multi-national manufacturing companies and design offices. It is designed to enhance the professional ability of graduates from a range of backgrounds, including: Mechanical, Electrical and Science.
The course extends over a minimum period of three academic years of part-time study. The underlying principles of the three pillars of IPD and their integration are taught in a class setting. The theory of the three pillars is complemented by class based discussions, using a number of case studies in a range of product development sectors. In addition the theory on the production pillar of IPD is complemented with practical lab sessions on the state-of-the-art equipment. The course includes an optional field study visit abroad, during which student learn best practices on IPD at renowned companies, including BMW, Airbus and Eurocopter.
