On 16 December the Department of Health, Physical Education and Consumer Studies (HPECS) within the Faculty of Education organised Healthy and Wealthy - a wellbeing and fundraising event by students, for students. B.Sc. (Hons) Home Economics (HE) students, together with B.Ed (Hons) Nutrition, Family and Consumer Studies (NFCS) and B.Ed (Hons) PE students joined forces to organise a morning of fun yet educational activities focusing on healthy eating for university students, as well as general fitness and teambuilding. After an active warm-up session, students worked their way through five thought-provoking, interactive booths which demonstrated and discussed heart health and making healthier food choices. From the Protein Bar and Sugar and Salt, to Munch that Lunch and Know Your Plate, students got practical tips on recognising and adopting a nutritious plant-based diet the Mediterranean way. After another dynamic teambuilding session, incorporating dodge ball and tic-tac-toe among others, the morning ended with a healthy lunch consisting of veggie pizza, chickpea burgers, fresh salads, a variety of muffins and herbs, veg and fruit water infusions all prepared by the NFCS and HE students themselves. Before leaving, HPECS students and staff also made a monetary collection to donate to the Malta Community Chest Fund via l-iStrina.
The different recipes demonstrated and shared during this event, as well as other motivational tips are available at the following .
The HPECS Department would also like to acknowledge the support of the St.Lu膵ija Local Council who kindly made the Chinese Garden of Serenity available for the event.
