On Thursday 4 May 2017, the Centre for Environmental Education and Research (CEER) held a forum on ‘Why Should We Bother About Development?’. The aim of the forum was to build awareness among students on how they can contribute towards sustainable development.
World-renowned developmental specialist, Colm Regan, the event’s honourable guest speaker, launched the 7th edition of his book ‘80:20 Development in an Unequal World’. Regan gave a very inspiring presentation where he shared his experiences, thoughts and knowledge on unequal development from developed and developing countries perspectives.

Other participants in the event were students, lecturers, researchers and journalists from different fields. The students who attended were from Malta, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Switzerland, Republic of Congo, United Kingdom, China, Ghana, Brazil, Nigeria, Malaysia and Saint Lucia. Six students presented their countries’ emerging developmental issues touching on topics such as community development, child sexual assault, women empowerment, racism and environmentally-friendly transport. Each shared experiences and thoughts on why these developmental topics need to be addressed and how they hope to assist in resolving them.
The forum was organised by students of the University of Malta’s International Masters in Adult Education for Social Change who interned with CEER. The Centre seeks to create a platform where students can share their experiences and ideas on developmental issues. CEER believes that every voice counts and every student has the right to speak up for development across the world.
CEER invites students who are dedicated and passionate about sustainable development to contact the Centre.
