On Saturday 17 June, Rotaract Malta La Valette organised Work Hard Play Hard - Bringing Your Ideas to Life – a half-day seminar at the Santana Hotel, focusing on the theme of Entrepreneurship. At this seminar with over 50 participants and 9 speakers, Dr Leonie Baldacchino, Director of the Edward De Bono Institute at the University of Malta, led the workshop on 'Empowering Entrepreneurs'.
Key experts shared their insight into the factors that are essential for developing and bringing a business​ idea to life.
Topics included 'The importance of validating a business idea' by Professor Louis Naudi, Ambassador for and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing in Malta; 'Born-Global Entrepreneurs' by Ing. David J. Dingli, Assistant Professor at Maastricht School of Management; 'What leadership qualities can start-ups learn from established Businesses' by Ing. Joseph Caruana, owner of Tuning Fork Ltd. and Inspectra Ltd. 
The panel discussion that followed the talks was moderated by Ing. David J. Dingli, where five young entrepreneurs shared their business experiences with the participants; M​arcus Zarb-Cousin​, Director and Managing Pharmacist at Anici Pharmacy​ & Medical Centre​ (Qormi); Mark George Cardona, Founder and Director at MGC Distributors Ltd​ (Essentials Wholesale-dealing)​; ​Daniel Mangion, co-owner and Operations Manager of a fresh pasta business – GourmetAKD; Yasmin deGiorgio, founder of The Grassy Hopper, Theobroma Cacao Collective and Sanya Eco Spa; and Greta Borg Bezzina, co-owner and Operations Director of eCABS.
The Seminar concluded with Dr Baldacchino's workshop on 'Empowering Entrepreneurs'. Conclusions drawn from the workshop focused on how mentoring and international exposure can help young people to run and grow their business successfully, how education and coaching can push more young people to become entrepreneurs, and the importance of incubators.
Attendees had multiple opportunities to network with the speakers, as well as with fellow participants during coffee breaks and lunch.
Rotaract is an international organisation of young professionals and students of ages 18 to 30 that are committed to service and leadership in their communities and abroad. Rotaract Malta La Valette was officially founded on 28 June 2006. Members of the club utilise their free time for service project work, social events, and professional and leadership development workshops. It is sponsored by the two local Rotary clubs (Rotary Club La Valette Malta and Rotary Club Malta) and is part of the Sicily-Malta District 2110.
