Did you ever imagine what it would be like to descend to the centre of the Earth? Does the idea of open-air field work appeal to you? Are you intrigued by the physical and chemical processes that drive our changing weather patterns and climate? Are you keen to learn to learn how to use computer models to explain and predict our complex ocean currents? Are you ready to become a critical thinker about the problems affecting our local, regional and global environment, and offer solid scientific explanations and solutions?
The recently launched undergraduate course in Geosciences, within the Faculty of Science at UM, is intended to produce graduates with a good grounding of scientific principles and methods, and their application to various Earth sciences, such as atmospheric science and air quality, geophysics and geology, sea floor exploration and marine geology, physical oceanography and much more.
As from the next academic year (2018-2019), the Department of Geosciences will offer two Joint Honours options: B.Sc. (Hons) in Geosciences and Physics and B.Sc.(Hons) in Geosciences and Mathematics. These options are ideally suited for students who obtain A-levels in Physics and/or Mathematics, and would like to develop both their theoretical skills as well as those applied to the understanding of our planet.
