Between 7 and 9 March, Rev. Dr Charlo Camilleri, OCarm, participated in the International Conference 'Theological Anthropology in Inter-religious Perspective' at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, Germany, where he presented a paper entitled 'The soul's growth is not like the body's growth’ taking Teresa of Avila as a case study to draw parallels and constants between Christian and Sufi Mysticism. The Conference was hosted by the Centre of Islamic Theology and the Faculty of Protestant Theology in collaboration with the Cambridge Muslim College and St. Andrew’s Biblical Theology Institute in Moscow.
Theological Anthropology is the study of the human person within a particular religious tradition. In responding to contemporary challenges, this fundamental area in Theological discourse, needs to develop new approaches in taking into account diverse religious traditions and their understanding of the human being.
The Conference, the first of its kind to be organised at this level, was an important step in the Christian – Muslim dialogue for mutual understanding while allowing both Christians and Muslims to cast new light on their respective traditions.
Rev. Dr Charlo Camilleri is a lecturer within the Faculty of Theology.
