Professor Maria Cordina, from the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery was awarded Honorary Life Membership to Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe (PCNE) in recognition for her contribution to the development of Pharmaceutical Care and service to the Association during the Association鈥檚 last meeting in Malaga, Spain.
Professor Cordina was one of the pioneers of Pharmaceutical Care in Europe and has been conducting research in the field of Pharmaceutical Care since 1994. Her early work on the delivery of pharmaceutical care to asthma patients, focusing on therapeutic outcomes, is one of the most cited papers in the field.
Professor Cordina has been invited to address issues related to pharmaceutical care at many conferences. She has conducted significant pioneering work on the dissemination of the philosophy of pharmaceutical care and research on pharmaceutical care in Central Asia, through the World Health Organisation鈥檚 (WHO) programme on Pharmaceuticals in Newly Independent states, specifically, the Reform and Development of Pharmaceutical Education in Central Asian Republics. Through WHO, she has also worked on developing and disseminating Pharmaceutical Care in Moldova, Armenia and the Russian Federation.
Her work in Pharmaceutical Care is ongoing, with the focus of instilling innovation in research and practice within this field.
