Dr Anthony Galea from the Physical Oceanography Research Group within the Department of Geosciences at the Faculty of Science, won this year鈥檚 National Public Speaking Competition organised by the Junior Chamber International Malta (JCI Malta) in collaboration with the Kunsill Nazzjonali ta偶-呕g魔a偶ag魔 (KN呕) and the English-Speaking Union of Malta (ESU Malta).
On Friday 16 March, Dr Galea went through the semi-finals and won the contest on Sunday 18 March. This year's topic was 'The best way to predict the future is to invent it' and Dr Galea impressed the panel of judges with his five-minute speech, entitled 'Inventing the future through science' featuring the Bernoulli principle. The National Final also included a three-minute impromptu speech in front of an audience.
The declared winner stated that '..it was an excellent opportunity to gain invaluable knowledge in improving public speaking skills.' Dr Anthony Galea is set to represent Malta in the which will be held in Riga Latvia from 19 June till 22 June.
