Prof. Charles Savona-Ventura, full-time lecturer and Head of the Department of Obsterics and Gynaecology, within the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, has recently been awarded an Honorary Fellowship to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
His doctoral and post-doctoral areas of research have mainly centered of the epidemiology of gestational diabetes and the effect of the intrauterine environment on the developing foetus and the role of nutritional factors during development in influencing the foetal origins of adult-onset disease such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes and hormone-related malignancies.
Prof. Savona-Ventura has contributed other academic publications in the field of reproductive epidemiology, medical obstetrics and facets of medical history. He currently also serves as Director of the Centre for Traditional Chinese Medicine at UM.
The award ceremony will be held in Edinburgh next June.
