The undergraduate podiatry programme, offered at the University of Malta, equips the student with the necessary knowledge, clinical experience and expertise to become an independent, dynamic healthcare professional capable of diagnosing, treating and managing pathologies of the foot for all categories of patients, from the high-risk foot to children and sports.
Toenail surgery is an integral part of the work in this profession, alongside foot biomechanics, gait analysis, orthotic prescription and manufacture, management of musculoskeletal conditions affecting the foot and lower limbs.
A podiatrist is a professional who can either work autonomously in the private and public sector, or become part of the multidisciplinary team in a number of scenarios, including sports, paediatrics, rheumatology, gerontology and diabetes.
Furthermore, postgraduate opportunities are also available within the Department of Podiatry at UM, both at Master and Doctoral levels for those graduates who aspire in one of a number of exciting specialities which this profession offers.
