The Department of Sociology, in collaboration with the European Sociological Association (ESA), hosted the 10th Midterm Conference of the Research Networks Sociology of the Arts and Sociology of Culture, between 4 and 7 September 2018, Valletta campus. The local convener for the conference was Dr Valerie Visanich from the department of Sociology.
More than 220 delegates, coming from 30 different countries attended the conference. The conference programme consisted of over 50 sessions and three international keynote speakers: Professor Charles Landry, Professor Richard Sennett and Dr Nina Wakeford, who delivered their speeches. The Rector of the University of Malta, Professor Alfred Vella, opened the conference on Tuesday evening.
The chosen theme for the conference was Creative Locations, Arts, Culture and the City. It brought together academics and researchers from areas of sociology of the arts, cultural anthropology, urban planning, cultural sociology, cultural studies, cultural policy and related fields.
Conference proceedings will be published in three prestigious peer-reviewed journals.
