Professor Peter Mayo, political, educational and cultural sociologist, in the Faculty of Education’s Department of Arts, Open Communities and Adult Education, was recently invited guest speaker at the Department of Sociology, University of Manchester.

Prof. Mayo was invited to engage in a public exchange with resident sociologist, Dr Nadim Mirshak centering on themes broached in a recently published version of this encounter in Open Democracy. The audience, with whose members an exchange took place towards the end of the event, consisted of resident sociologists, political scientists and doctoral students.

Manchester is also the venue of the publication of Professor Peter Mayo’s forthcoming book Higher Education in a Globalising Context. Engaging communities and Lifelong Learning: Europe and Beyond. The final manuscript for the book has just been handed in for publication by Manchester University Press after having made it through the earlier detailed proposal refereeing process and the second round of review with respect to the final completed manuscript.

The book should go into production shortly. The book, which is single authored, contains a Preface by Professor Budd L Hall of University of Victoria BC Canada and an Epilogue by Professor Rosemary Deem of  Royal Holloway, University of London.
