For the fifth year running, the Alistair David Robert Chalmers (ADRC) Trust has given recognition to excellence in the study of Spanish at the University of Malta. This year the award, aimed principally at encouraging young students to further their studies, was shared between two students, Ms Kayleigh Camilleri and Mr Carmel Caruana, who graduated in 2018.
Ms Camilleri received a bursary which permitted her not only to follow a course at one of Spain鈥檚 most prestigious universities, the University of Salamanca, but also visit Madrid and Zamora. Mr Caruana, a mature student, received book vouchers. Ms Camilleri is currently following a Masters in Translation while Mr Caruana has become a teacher of Spanish within the Lifelong Learning Programme.

The ADRC Trust was founded in 2013 by members of the Chalmers family, in memory of their late son and brother Alistair, whose many interests included Hispanic Studies with particular reference to Latin America, where he travelled extensively and did voluntary work.
Present at the ceremony to honour the students were Mr and Mrs Chalmers and other members of the Chalmers family, members of staff of the Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies, and family members of the awardees.
