The Department of Pharmacy within the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at UM offers a three-year degree in Pharmaceutical Technology. The course in Pharmaceutical Technology was launched in 2011 following demand from the pharmaceutical industry for professionals specialised in pharmaceutical technology processes. The course combines scientific aspects that are critical in the development and manufacture of new drugs, handling of medicines and medical devices.
Students in the final year of the course, delivered a presentation on their research project during the Annual Pharmacy Symposium, held recently at the University of Malta Valletta Campus.
The award for the best Pharmaceutical Technology student presentation is sponsored by Aurobindo APL Swift ¸£ÀûÔÚÏßÃâ·Ñ. This year's award was presented to Christ Xerri for his project ‘Pharmaceutical Technologist Emerging Roles.’ The project, carried out under the supervision of Dr Louise Grech, focused on describing and defining extending roles of pharmaceutical technologists within a hospital pharmacy setting. Through this framework, pharmaceutical technologists in hospitals contribute to the expansion of pharmacy services and support pharmacists to focus on patient-bedside services.
