Chev. Prof. Laurent Seychell's book, entitled Didactique des langues et interculturalité: L'erreur dans l'interculturalité, avec exercices d'application was first launched in 2007; the book was first published by Gutenberg Press, in Malta.
The Éditions Universitaires Européennes (EUE) in Latvia were interested in the book, so much so that Latvia, which had joined the European Union at the same period as Malta, asked Chev. Prof. Seychell's permission to reprint this book last year. The only changes made were on the cover whereas its content remained untouched. EUE is renowned worldwide and promotes this kind of academic work.
According to theories pertaining to the learning-teaching process of a foreign language, like the French language in Malta or elsewhere where French has the same stature as it has in Malta, the «didactologues» point out five competencies on which this process stands: these are the linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, strategic and cultural ones. The author analyses and comments scientifically on each and every one of them, followed by pertinent examples, thus illustrating his findings. As the book title suggests, exercises are proposed to train and test the students' understanding of the learning-teaching process of a foreign language.
