The workshop, ‘Jitqawwa L-Għalliem, Jitqawwa l-Istudent’, on empowering teachers and their students through different education actions was organised by Prof, Suzanne Gatt and Dr Tania Muscat, from the Faculty of Education, as part of the ‘Il-Festival tal-Ktieb fuq il-Kampus’ held in March.

Work by the project Social Transformation through Educational Policies based on Successful Educational Actions (STEP4SEAS) was presented at the event. This work mainly focusses on the concept of Dialogic Literary Gatherings (DLG), which is one of the Successful Education Actions promoted by the project which leads to social inclusion as well as to academic improvement. During a DLG, teachers and students are engaged in reading classics, and reflecting on the readings in terms of their personal life.

The STEP4SEAS Project aims to promote the development of educative policies identified through research, carried out by the project INCLUDE-ED in 14 European countries, which were found to lead to increased attainment for disadvantaged learners, coexistence and social cohesion. These actions were found to be transferable across different contexts.
STEP4SEAS is coordinated by CREA – University of Barcelona. The University of Malta, through Prof. Suzanne Gatt and Dr Tania Muscat from the Department of Early Childhood and Primary Education, is partner in the project. The Secretariat for Catholic Education is a partner too, together with schools in Italy, Cyprus, Spain and the United Kingdom.
