On Friday evening, 24 May 2019, fifteen practitioners from the tourism and hospitality sector in Gozo were presented with certificates after the successful completion of two study-units offered by the University of Malta from its Xewkija Campus in Gozo.
  
The study-units鈥擳ourism in Gozo and The Gozo Experience鈥攚ere delivered and coordinated by the University鈥檚 Institute for Tourism, Travel and Culture (ITTC). The innovative programme of study, which was endorsed by the Gozo Tourism Association, was delivered in the Maltese language in back-to-back sessions on Monday evenings and Tuesday mornings over a number of weeks, and financially supported by the Ministry for Gozo.

  Dr Marie Avellino, Director of the ITTC, welcomed the audience and congratulated the successful students for participating in this in professional development experience, so critical for adding to the professionalisation of the Gozo tourism product.
  Pro-Rector Professor Godfrey Baldacchino spoke about the unique experience of mentoring adult learners and reminded the audience that a programme of expansion and refurbishment of the Xewkija campus will kick in soon and is expected to be completed by June 2020.
  The Hon. Minister for Gozo, Dr Justyne Caruana, reaffirmed the significance of professional education and training in the pursuit of Gozo as a tourism destination of excellence. She reaffirmed the Government鈥檚 commitment to work hand in hand with the University of Malta in order to assure quality education provision also from the Xewkija Campus, which is one of four sites that are being passed over to the University of Malta on the basis of perpetual rent (emphyteusis).
