The Department of Geosciences at the University of Malta organised a seminar discussing how to build a safer future through the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, science education and the promotion of peace.
  
The highlight of the event, attended by staff and graduate students, was a keynote delivered by Dr Lassina Zerbo, Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). Dr Zerbo is in Malta for official talks with the Maltese Government.

  Pro-Rector Professor Godfrey Baldacchino welcomed Dr Zerbo to the UM Campus. The Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, Mr Carmelo Abela, attended the session and addressed the audience. Presentations were delivered by Prof. Pauline Galea (Department of Geosciences), Dr Monika Wohlfeld (Mediterranean Academy for Diplomatic Studies) and Prof. James Sater (Department of International Relations).
