UM academic couple Prof. Godfrey Baldacchino and Dr Anna Baldacchino were the invited speakers at a half-day seminar organised by the University of Seychelles (UniSey) on 4 March. Prof. Baldacchino spoke about the development choices and trajectories of small island states while Dr Baldacchino spoke about the emergent curriculum approach in early childhood education and its implementation.
The seminar was covered by the Seychelles national news bulletin which can be accessed
UniSey is the only public, tertiary education institution in this small archipelagic developing country in the Indian Ocean, with a population just shy of 100,000. UM has an agreement with UniSey, whereby a number of UniSey staff members are proceeding with their postgraduate studies at UM's Islands and Small States Institute (ISSI), while benefiting from fee waivers.
Appreciation for UM's contribution to such human resource development and capacity building in Seychelles was expressed by the Seychelles Hon Minister of Education, Dr Justin Valentin; Ms Joelle Perreau, Vice-Chancellor / Rector at UniSey; Dr Indra Persaud, UniSey's Registrar, and Dr Justin Zelime, Dean of UniSey's Faculty of Arts & Social Development, and various other staff members, who welcomed the Baldacchino duo and are keen to indulge in further cooperation.
