Rector Professor Alfred J Vella is hosting a series of eight Strategic Implementation Fora focusing on the commitments within the University of Malta's Strategic Plan 2020-2025.
The entire University community of students, staff and stakeholders are invited to and actively participate throughout the process. Each forum is dedicated to one of the University's Strategic Themes, showcasing examples of successful implementation across University entities and sharing knowledge through working groups.
The first Strategic Implementation Forum on "Enterprise and Industry Impact" took place on the 23 February, hosting academic and commercial stakeholders.
Professor Tanya Sammut-Bonnici, Pro-Rector for Strategic Planning and Enterprise outlined the Main Commitments 2020-2025: Enterprise and Industry Impact, and how the University of Malta is investing to increase its capacity for collaborative activity with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), industry, and other social and economic stakeholders.
Professor Noellie Brockdorff, Dean Faculty of Media and Knowledge Science, focused on the “Strategic Commitment: Enhance Learning through Enterprise Projects” showcasing the faculty’s dynamic capabilities in linking formative assignments to enterprise and industry projects.
Mr Peter Calleya, Visiting Lecturer and Head of Governance Commercial Banking at HSBC Malta, focused on the “Strategic Commitment: Embed Industry Knowledge in the Learning Experience” explaining how Stratx Simulations are used at FEMA to teach strategic management and marketing.
Ms Liz Barbaro Sant, Vice President, Malta Chamber, focused on the “Strategic Commitment: Expand Executive Education” stressing the need for continuous professional development programmes in enterprise and industry, encouraging executive education and life-long learning.
Ing. Jonathan Ferrito, Director, ST Microelectronics, focused on the “Strategic Commitment: Develop Enterprise and Industry Interaction” describing internship schemes across disciplines in production environments, with work-based learning that adds value to the students’ experience.
Following the keynote speeches, Working Groups were organised to discuss current and future activities that reflect elements of the “Strategic Theme: Enterprise and Industry Impact”. The Working Groups were led by:

- Ms Elaine Marie Grech, Assistant Lecturer, Faculty of Economics Management and Accountancy
- Ms Angele Patiniott, Manager, Corporate Research and Knowledge Transfer
- Dr Joe Schembri, Lecturer, Faculty of Economics Management and Accountancy
Enterprise and innovation are the strategic foundations of the ongoing development of knowledge and research as vehicles to achieve a positive impact on society and the economy. The University of Malta will endeavour to move forward with priorities concerning work-based learning, outreach and education programmes for life-long learning and economic development.
