On 31 May 2022 the Institute of Aerospace Technologies and held a public dissemination event to disseminate the key findings of project ACSAGO: Active Control Sidestick for Aircraft Ground Operations. The event was held at the Esplora Interactive Science Centre in Kalkara and was attended by professionals from the aviation community, researchers, members of the public, and the press.
The event began with a welcome speech by MCST鈥檚 Executive Chairman Dr Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, followed by an address by the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Hon. Keith Azzopardi Tanti. Then, a promotional of the project was shown and an overview of ACSAGO was given by the project coordinator Dr Ing. Jason Gauci. The key results and conclusions of the project were then shared in a number of technical presentations by Dr Ing. Jason Gauci, Mr Marlon Galea and Captain Alan Muscat.
The last part of the event was dedicated to an interactive panel discussion which focused on the challenges of aircraft taxiing; the role of pilot training; the benefits of active sidestick technology; the future of cockpit automation; and engineless taxiing. The panellists were Dr Ing. Jason Gauci, Prof. Ing. David Zammit-Mangion, Captain Karl Falzon (Head of Company Operations, QuAero Ltd.) and Captain Eric Cordina (Nominated Person Crew Training & Head of Training, Air Malta).
