After two years of remote conferencing, the European Geosciences Union meeting was finally held in person in Vienna on the 23-27 May. The meeting was the first fully hybrid, with more than 12,0000 onsite and remotely connected participants from 116 countries. The University of Malta, in particular the Department of Geosciences, was again strongly represented this year.
Prof. Aaron Micallef and Dr Matthew Agius both convened sessions in their respective fields, namely submarine geomorphology and seismic tomographic imaging of the Earth. Other geoscientists presented their current research: Prof. Pauline Galea, Dr Daniela Farrugia, Dr Sebastiano D鈥橝mico, Dr Emanuele Colica, Dr Irena Schulten, and Prof. Aldo Drago.
Geosciences Masters student Luca Laudi also attended this year's EGU and presented his ongoing research as part of the project SIGMA: Seismic Imaging of Groundwater for Maltese Aquifers, funded by the Energy and Water Agency. EGU is not only about scientists presenting their research but also an opportunity for networking and collaborations.
