Professor Giuseppe Di Giovanni has been elected as the European member of the Committee on Animals in Research of the American Society for Neuroscience – SfN and will serve a three-year term in this role.
The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is an American professional society, based in Washington, DC, representing scientists and physicians around the world whose research is focused on the study of the brain and nervous system. The SfN Committee on Animals in Research (CAR) protects and advances the responsible use of animals in biomedical research. It tracks changes in judicial, regulatory, and legislative policy that could negatively affect neuroscience research, generates animals in research resources and builds alliances with other stakeholder groups. The Committee's members are American and international academics that have distinguished themselves in protecting and improving animal welfare and animal research.
Professor Giuseppe Di Giovanni also serves as the Chairman of the Mediterranean Neuroscience Society Committee for Animal Research in the Mediterranean Area (CARMA). As the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neuroscience Methods by Elsevier he has influenced journal policy on animal welfare and ethical use.
Giuseppe Di Giovanni is a Professor of Physiology and Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Malta. He has more than 30 years of animal research experience and he has published more than a hundred experimental research articles and several books in his field.
