UM academics Dr Marie Louise Mangion and Dr Joe Schembri run a workshop with tourism stakeholders in Split, Croatia, in September. The workshop is part of a project between the University of Malta and the University of Split, under the European University of the Seas initiative, focusing on sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean.
During the workshop, the Croatian representatives of sectors such as hotels, travel agents, rental accommodation, the regulator and Government, discussed issues such as over-crowding, seasonality, fair distribution and environmental impact. An academic from the University of Split is expected to be in Malta in the next few months for a similar workshop, this time with tourism stakeholders from Malta.
The project aims to compare the two Mediterranean destinations and their approach to sustainability.
The project is funded by the SEA-EU Research Seed Fund Award.
