The Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) of the , chaired by , was established in 2015 to strengthen the relationship between the Faculty and industrial partners. The Board is consulted on various issues, including programme content, graduate preparedness, internships, and collaborations. One key outcome of the IAB is the Summer internship programme which has been running since the academic year 2019/2020, where companies provide engineering-related ‘mentored’ employment to students during the summer. Successful completion of the recognised internship programme is acknowledged on the students' degree transcripts.
All IAB members are well-positioned individuals in the local industry, many of whom are UM alumni. Following discussions during IAB meetings and guidance from external accreditation bodies, it was decided that the Board would have a co-chair. Following internal discussions between all IAB members, a decision was unanimously taken to formally appoint Ing. Alexander Galea as co-chair for Industrial Affairs of the IAB.
UM Rector Prof. Alfred J. Vella congratulated Ing. Alexander Galea during the event and said “It is our absolute pleasure to be presenting this appointment letter to Ing. Galea on his appointment as the first co-chair for industrial affairs of the IAB. The Faculty’s Industrial Advisory Board is very important for the University as it helps push initiatives that put the theory we provide to our engineering students into practice through such activities as the summer internship scheme.â€
