, from the , , visited the Faculty of Electric and Electronics Engineering at the Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) in Israel, on an Erasmus+ ICM teaching mobility between 18 - 23 May 2023.
He gave lectures in error control coding, introducing linear block codes and describing the structure and decoding algorithms for Low Density Parity Check codes, which are state-of the-art error-correcting codes. These are an essential component of many modern communication systems.
Prof. Buttigieg also gave a research seminar on Insertion and Deletion Error-Correcting codes highlighting their possible application to DNA storage of data, which is a promising technology that could enable the archival of vast amounts of data over periods of thousands of years or longer.
He also met with Dr Amir Handelman and other staff at HIT to discuss existing and future collaborations.
