Decades of strategic planning, investment, research and staff training, visionary leadership and progressive management related to digital education were celebrated at the event held at the University of Malta (UM) Main campus on 9 April 2024. The event showcased testimony to the robust structure and system for the design, delivery and evaluation of digital education that UM boasts today.
The event “Celebrating Digital Education at the UM” comprised the launch of two e-books:
- Optimising the Impact of Online Learning - Resources for Educators and
- Optimising the Impact of Online Learning - Resources for Health Educators.
Prof. Colla MacDonald, Senior Research Advisor, provided an overview of the two publications which are outputs of two ERASMUS+ projects, and led by UM. Dr James Cilia, Director of the Office for Professional Academic Development, shared a detailed insightful account of the evolution of digital education at UM.
During the event Certificates of Recognition were presented by Rector to members of staff who played a key role in the advancement of digital education at UM. Several academics who completed the Designing, Delivering and Evaluating Online Study-Units and/or Train the Online Lecturer courses were also presented with certificates.
Looking forward, the UM’s confidence in maintaining quality standards in digital education stems from its successful evolution to date. Whilst thanking all those who contributed to digital education at the UM so far, including the Digital Education Committee and IT , UM Rector Prof. Alfred J. Vella expressed confidence in the University’s continued upholding of excellent quality standards and the continued diligent embrace of digital education in the future.
