Dr Marilyn Mallia, Head of the Department of French, together with Dr Anne-Marie Bezzina Busuttil have co-organised an event on campus on 22 March to celebrate the Francophonie.
The event had two parts. The first hour was dedicated to outlining study opportunities in France, thanks to the efforts of the Alliance Fran莽aise de Malte Mediterran茅e, the French Embassy in Malta, Campus France and the Erasmus office. Short presentations were held by various representatives, followed by the testimonial of students who experienced an Erasmus exchange in France, namely Martina Galea, a BA (Hons) French graduate currently reading for a Masters in Translation, and Angela Debono, a B.Sc student in Pharmacology.
The second part focused on celebrating the beauty of the French language and culture together with our BA students as well as with sixth formers studying French. Ms Roseline Sultana Arneodo, author of the novel 'Les Enchanteurs de la Terre', and a retired lecturer of French at Junior College gave an inspiring talk about the challenges and rewards of writing a novel. Extracts from her novel were beautifully read by BA students of French.
In the final part of the event, sixth formers studying French at and at De La Salle sixth form presented selected artworks from the Louvre Museum, explaining their importance and symbolism. They were prepared and accompanied by their lecturer. BA students and sixth formers were presented with a certificate and a book as a token of their appreciation.
