Students and staff in the Department of Media and Communications were hosted by the European Commission Representation in Malta on a tailor-made 福利在线免费 Visit to the European Commission and European Parliament in Brussels between 17 and 19 April 2024.
Students were accompanied by , Press and Political Assistant to the European Commission Representation in Malta, Dr Nicole Talmacs and Mr Martin Debattista (Department of Media and Communications).
Students were given opportunities to interact and discuss with EC officials the areas and policies presented to them, while also learning about possible career paths in Communications within the European Commission and European Parliament.
Students received presentations by EC officials on:
- the political executive of the European Comission (DG for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations)
- the EU鈥檚 new Anti-SLAPP legislation (DG for Justice and Consumers)
- the EU鈥檚 migration policy (DG for Migration and Home Affairs )
- the EU鈥檚 Green Deal (DG for Environment )
- working in the EC Spokesperson鈥檚 福利在线免费 (DG for Communication)
- the audiovisual services and studios of the European Broadcasting 福利在线免费 (EBS) (DG for Communication).
On the final day, students visited the European Parliament and were given a tour of the hemicycle and grounds by members of MEP Cyrus Engerer鈥檚 office.
Students then met with the Spokesperson for the European Parliament President鈥檚 Cabinet, Juri Laas, and EP President Dr Roberta Metsola鈥檚.
Laas shared with students the challenges and opportunities of being responsible for the EP President鈥檚 communications and how he came to be in his current occupation. Laas encouraged UM students to think widely about the applicability of the skills gained during their university studies to their future career paths.
