In the last six years, an increase of 1,300 student drivers requesting a parking permit has been noted by student organisation MKSA, the Media and Knowledge Science Association.
A sixth of those students with the parking permit lived within 2km radius from campus.
Using this data as motivation, MKSA is organising an event for Earth month.
Partnering with independent Ħaż-Żebbuġ local councillor Steve Zammit Lupi, and nine other organisations, MKSA is organising a Bicycle Bus on 10 April, in a bid to get students to ditch their cars and cycle to university instead.
The bicycle bus will pass through Mosta and Birkirkara – the two localities with the highest amount of student drivers.
Those who would like to join but do not have a bicycle, the MKSA has 20 bicycles up for rental for no cost at all. To be able to use one of those bicycles one would have to reserve it
