The first international exhibition featuring foreign model enthusiasts from seven countries has been organised by the Maltese branch of the International Plastic Modellers Society at the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa, and some of the miniature models on exhibit have been inspired by a UM lecture.
The miniature models vary from old to new, from sci fi to films, to animals, ships and airplanes.
One of the model enthusiasts, Joe Fenech, said , that the passion in his hobby was inspired by a lecture delivered by Prof. Timmy Gambin.
Prof. Gambin is a UM resident academic at the Department of Classics & Archaeology within the Faculty of Arts. His research interests include historical archaeology and aviation archaeology.
Fenech said this lecture inspired him to make an accurate model after conducting research and gathering accurate information. He made the model of an airplane which crashed into the sea in Beng魔ajsa during the Second World War.
Miniature scale models are an exact replica of an original object, and always feature historical research of every object.
Around 20 different categories are being judged by a competition jury on the basis of their interpretation, detail and presentation.
