The Argotti Botanic Gardens & Resource Centre has recently collaborated with the Embassy of Malta to Spain to organise an event marking Malta鈥檚 Independence at an outdoor art exhibition at the Royal Botanic Garden of Madrid.
To this end, Argotti donated three endemic Maltese specimens to the Spanish garden.
The two botanic gardens continued liaising through the offices of Profa. Dra. Mar铆a P. Mart铆n, Managing Director, Spanish National Research Council CSIC Real Jard铆n Bot谩nico and Tony Meli, Curator Manager at Argotti.
Between 15-21 April, a Spanish botanical expedition to Malta was organised by the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid and the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia, in collaboration with the Argotti Botanic Garden and Resource Centre, collected samples of Maltese flora for scientific purposes.
Recently, collaboration was further consolidated through the signing of an MoU under the auspices of the Rector of the University of Malta, Prof. Alfred J. Vella and Dr Francisco Javier Moreno- Fuentes, Vice-President for International Affairs, CSIC.
Being the largest public research institution in Europe, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), its objective is to promote research to advance scientific and technological progress.
The Argotti Botanic Gardens & Resource Centre hopes this opportunity for collaboration can serve to develop other projects in the areas of conservation, biodiversity, botany and horticulture.
The benefit of diverse perspectives and knowledge would be a welcome addition to the knowledge of all parties involved.
