Did you know that 23 September is the European Day of Organic Agriculture? Do you consider where your food comes from?
This week we celebrated the European Day of Organic Agriculture. In so doing, we acknowledge the contribution of organic farming towards the provision of healthy food and farmers' attempts at protecting and preserving the environment. Organic farming does not come without its challenges but through this agricultural system, three of the seventeen sustainable development goals are addressed. SDG #2, which refers to ''no hunger'', SDG#3 which refers to ''good health and well-being'' and SDG#15 which refers to ''Life on land''. According to the NSO (2024), 0.8% of the agricultural land in Malta is used for organic products by 34 producers.
Next time you choose your fruit and vegetables, consider the healthier organic options, thereby supporting organic farmers and contributing to more sustainable development.
