The Institute of Aerospace Technologies brought one of its research projects to a successful completion.
Project REACTIVE was a two-year project led by Prof. Robert Camilleri from the Institute of Aerospace Technologies within the University of Malta and Prof. He Zhang from the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China.
The project had a budget of €400,000 and investigated onboard energy recovery and storage for engineless aircraft taxiing. The project designed a lightweight, high power density electrical machines for the aircraft landing gear and a power dense flywheel used as an energy storage solution.
The research was presented at the ENGAGE event, organised by The Malta Council for Science and Technology. The event brought together different researchers to showcase their successful research and innovative projects within various sectors. A panel discussion on aviation was also held.
Project REACTIVE was funded by the Malta Council for Science & Technology, through the SINO-Malta Fund 2020 (Science and Technology Cooperation).
