, Chair of Maternal Health in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland and from the Universit脿 degli Studi di Genova, Italy, were hosted at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and the Faculty of Health Sciences for an academic visit earlier this year.
During this visit, there were a series of fruitful collaborative meetings with Prof. Jean Calleja Agius, Department of Anatomy and Prof. Neville Calleja from the Department of Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.
They also visited the Department of Midwifery at the Faculty of Health Sciences and toured the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, hosted by Dr Rita Pace Parascandolo, Head of Department of Midwifery and Prof. Yves Muscat Baron, Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Mater Dei Hospital.
During this visit, Dr Sandra Morano presented her latest book entitled Donne che curano le donne ('Women who cure women'), which describes the challenges faced by female obstetricians and gynaecologists in Italy who between the 1970's and 1990's successfully managed to carve out their clinical careers.
This book was presented to both the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, and Faculty of Health Sciences. Work is underway in order to have this book translated in English.
