As the University of Malta joins the worldwide movement for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a powerful campaign that runs from 25 November 25 through 10 December, we are taking this annual globally-supported initiative, as an opportunity to renew our call on individuals, organisations, and communities to take decisive action toward ending gender-based violence (GBV) and fostering a safer, more inclusive world.
Through educational initiatives and community engagement, the University aims to raise awareness and equip individuals with the tools to recognise and respond to gender-based violence.
This year, the University’s Equity Office is leading efforts on campus support this global mission by outlining two core initiatives aimed at engaging University staff as well as the wider public.
- Staff Training on Recognising Domestic Violence (Ongoing)
In collaboration with the Counselling Unit and Human Resources Management and Development (HRMD), the Equity Office is organising a specialised training session for University of Malta Staff. This training, titled Recognising the Signs of Domestic Violence, is designed to empower staff to identify early warning signs of domestic abuse. By understanding these signs, staff members can take action, provide support, and, where appropriate, connect individuals with resources that can help them find safety.
2. Confronting Cyber Violence (4 December at 12:00, LT1)
Expert speakers, Dr Eleonora Esposito (European Commission), Dr Dione Mifsud (Advisor Harassment and Bullying, UM) and Dr Maris Catania who is a Chartered Psychologist with expertise in cyberpsychology will together share insights and interventions on the causes, forms, and impacts of cyber violence.
This is a free event and the University community and the public are encouraged to register and be part of this critical discussion.

Taking a Stand Together
The University of Malta invites the community to participate in these initiatives and join in the global call to action for a world free from violence. By taking part in this campaign, whether through education, advocacy, or awareness, each participant plays a role in creating safer environments both online and offline.
Let us work together to make a lasting difference.
