The Faculty of Medicine & Surgery congratulates on being appointed the new Malta High Commissioner to the UK.
For the last twelve years, Prof. Montefort served the Faculty as Head of and as Deputy Dean. One of the remarkable legacies of his headship is the establishment of the Faculty as an international examination hub for the clinical PACES examination of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) which is required by young doctors intending to specialize in Medicine.
Throughout his academic career, spanning over 30 years, he left a mark through multiple cited scientific publications, supervision of many of the Faculty's PhD and Masters students and involvement in various roles such as vice chairman of the Medical School Conference committee and chairing the scientific committee of the same conference. He has also been a member of the Faculty Doctoral Committee for a number of years and was instrumental in re-fashioning the MD final exam format which was lauded by many of our external examiners.
For the past three decades as a Consultant Respiratory Physician, he demonstrated empathy, excellent patient care and was a mentor to colleagues and medical students alike.
Whilst thanking Prof. Montefort for his impact on medical education and research and his contribution to the national health system, the Faculty is confident that Prof. Montefort will continue to bring about positive change through his new diplomatic role. We augur him well.
