Prof. David Mifsud of the Institute of Earth Systems and Mr Thomas Cassar have recently co-authored a book pertaining to the insects of the Maltese Islands.
This gift book, weighing more than 2 kg, featuring more than 600 pages of information and over 550 photographs, is a masterpiece for all individuals who hold the natural world close to their heart.
The launch was held under the Patronage of the President of the Republic of Malta H.E. Ms Myriam Spiteri Debono, and was very well attended.
Mr Pierre Cassar, Director of the Marketing, Communications, and Alumni Office at UM opened the floor and introduced the book.
Later on, the authors shared their views and traced the journey of how the book came to see the light of day. Prof. Ing. Simon Fabri, the Pro-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer, highlighted the need of such publications to reach the general public and emphasised that more books of this type should be published for a better understanding of the natural world around us.
The President gave a concluding note underlying the importance of all organisms and their role in the natural environment of the Maltese Islands.
This is the very first book of its kind, providing a wealth of information on all insect groups present in Malta, accompanied by a superbly curated selection of photographs.
