By the Faculty of Laws
The Faculty of Laws notes with sadness the recent passing away of our legal colleague and friend, Prof. Guido Alpa. Prof Alpa had regular contacts with the University of Malta since 1999 when Summer Law Conferences started being organised here with the Rome La Sapienza University, where for many years he served as professor of civil law. He frequently collaborated with the Faculty of Law and loved visiting Malta where he lectured for a time and served as external examiner on a number of dissertations at both graduate and undergraduate levels for several years.
Author of numerous law books and academic papers, he was an internationally renowned expert in the civil law, and was an early pioneer in the development of consumer law in his native Italy and overseas. He was the keynote speaker at the Annual Consumer Law Conference 2019 organised by the Chamber of Advocates in conjunction with the Department of Commercial Law.
A decent and modest gentleman and true professional, he lived and loved the law at the highest levels. He led the Italian Bar Association for many years. The Faculty of Law remains grateful for his generous and precious contributions and collaboration for so many years. His passing is a huge loss to the whole legal fraternity.
Heartfelt condolences are extended to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
May he rest in eternal peace.
